Some of you have shared your challenge coming up with a theme. This shouldn’t be a stressful activity. Have fun with it. Ask your parents or older siblings for some ideas. I have a list of some suggestions shared at my training from other schools and ones I’ve thought up.
Hawaiian Any decade…60’s, 70’s, 80’s A specific movie or TV show Zoo animals—LL are the zoo keepers/animal tamers Mr and Mrs Packman and ghosts Sushi roll—LL are the sushi chefs Sandwhich/burger—LL are the buns Baseball (or other sport) team Firemen (hats and all freshmen hold a hose) LL are police officers and frosh are donuts Train (need lots of cardboard here…LL are the conductor or engine/caboose) Candyland characters Ducks (LL are the “mama” ducks) Army/military Cowboys/girls *Bonus points if you have a slogan with your theme! Just the reminder. There’s a line between fun and embarrassing. This is NOT Freshman Initiation. This should be a fun, memorable experience for your Crew. Keep your theme light and fun and appropriate. Nothing that could be offensive in any way. Not sure why this popped into my head, but please refrain from anything involving diapers and/or undergarments. Still stuck? View the pictures from last year or Google easy Halloween costumes for groups. It should help. Thanks! Just a few short days until it's pre-season...for Link.
Before I shoot off some reminders, I need to address Registration, as several of you have emailed me in the last week or so. Leaders are committed to being at Freshmen Orientation from 7:30 am until 1:00pm. Unfortunately this cuts into your Registration time. Our awesome PTSA moms said you may register any time after that, even though you are not 9th or 10th graders. I know that some of your coaches told you to do early registration at 7:30am, however this is serious "game time" for Link. 8:30am is when the freshmen will be entering the gym, and your presence is required. I have jobs for all of you. (You will gain a much better understanding in the coming days.) By committing to be a Leader, you committed to being at these events in full. Those that can't, I cannot give the responsibility to and I need to offer your spot to someone that can; only you can make that decision. The purpose of Link is to bring everyone together, and, therefore we should all be together for this first impression and event. You may, however, get to school early and grab a locker. Be sure to write down the locker # and have your combo ready for when you register. Here are some reminders and need-to-know's to help the Training Days and Orientation go smoothly: 1) Notebooks: you will be receiving your Link Leader Handbook, which is 3-hole punched (and stapled). For those of you that like to keep things neat, you may want to bring a slim binder. This is not required. 2) Pen/Pencils/etc.: you will be taking lots of notes, so bring things to write with; a highlighter might be helpful too 3) Light Snack: I'm going to provide some water and granola bars or similar for you to munch on during the trainings. If you'd like to bring your personal water bottle and/or snack, feel free. Our breaks will be quick, so plan accordingly. PLEASE, eat a MEAL before you come! We'll be going strong the whole time. A water bottle that can be refilled may be helpful too, especially as it tends to get warm outside. 4) Attire: You will be moving around, a lot, and sitting on the floor, a lot; dress accordingly, please. Comfort is key. 5) Meeting Spots: All training will be held in the MPR (if something changes, I'll post signs) Please be here promptly at 8:30am! 6) Campus Tour: We'll be discussing the Campus Tour; brainstorm places to stop and a theme for your Crew. 7) Help: Do you remember those bags used during Orientation? We'll need about 60 of them for next Tuesday! If anyone wants to help me make them, let me know! I'll be at school pretty much all day this week getting ready. Feel free to stop in if you're around campus...make some tape balls, signs, or just say hi! If you'd like to hang for a little bit after Training to help, I'll have supplies. Any spare moments you can lend are appreciated! I think this is it for now...Thanks so much for your commitment and enthusiasm! I hope you're as excited as I am for this next week of fun, and probably some craziness! Boom Boom! Miss Klabe |
