Leaders and A-Team:
A few reminders...
1)TRAINING DAYS AND ORIENTATION ARE MANDATORY!!
A) Training Days are Thurs 8/15 and Fri 8/16 from 8:30am-1:30pm OR Sat 8/17 and Sun 8/18 from 8:30am - 1:30pm.
B) Orientation is Tues 8/20--7:30am sharp! (Yes, this is the same day as Registration...you will register AFTER the Orientation activities are over.)
***IF your availability has changed, or if you changed your mind, you need to contact me ASAP! I need an accurate head count. Some of you did not indicate what days you plan on attending on your application.
Sorry, but if you cannot attend the training in full, then you cannot be a Leader. This is NOT something you can just “get the info from a friend” or remember from last year. This was outlined in the application. I am happy to speak with you individually if you would like.
2) T-Shirts—these are a BIG component. The shirts identify you as the Leaders, and should incorporate our school and mission for the program: make all students feel welcome to the SeaKing family. I know many of you are much more creative than I, so if you have ideas, please send them. I will need to finalize design and order at the end of the month. I also need your shirt size. These are regular t-shirts, sizes small to XL (or XXL if needed). If I don’t receive your size, I’ll have to make a best guess.
3) For those of you new Leaders and a reminder to the returning Leaders, part of Orientation will involve a themed guided tour with your freshman Crew. For the juniors: remember your group theme? I have lots of pictures of last year’s groups for ideas (PacMen, firemen, pirates, pool boys/girls, clowns, etc.). I will have some basic art supplies available on the Training Days, but anything special, you might need/want to bring. You will have some planning time with your partner(s) at the end of the Training Days to get creative. I’m letting you know this now to start those creative juices. Prizes will be awarded to the best theme. You don’t want your group to feel left out, or just show up in some leis.
4) What Every Freshman Should Know—this is a list you will present to your Crew on Orientation. What are things that you wish you were told as a freshman?? Try to keep it geared at the SeaKing freshmen, rather than generic “do your homework” and “have fun” comments…got those. What are some unique bits of insight for incoming SeaKings? Like, the best day to buy lunch, bathrooms to avoid, etc. Send me your thoughts in an email, please.
5) As I prepare the group lists, please let me know if there are any incoming freshmen that you know well. This means, do you have any siblings/family members/close friends that are entering PVHS this fall? Also, please indicate if you speak another language and/or have worked closely with students with special needs. These two populations need to be carefully supported through Orientation, and those with experience are an invaluable asset.
Thanks so much for your commitment and enthusiasm. I’m excited to keep the momentum going! There’s a Link phrase that I’d like to introduce to the new members. It’s a simple phrase to promote the philosophies of Link Crew and the Boomerang Project in our everyday lives. Like the boomerang, the thoughts, actions and/or words you put out into the world eventually find their way back to you, but not before covering a lot of ground a long the way. What’s the quickest and simplest way to communicate this karmic notion? By saying, “Boom Boom“. You put it out…it comes back. Stay tuned for more info.
So…Boom Boom!
.
Please confirm you received this information by sending me:
a) your shirt size
b) answers to questions #5
c) Training Days you are attending (weekdays or weekend)
Thank you! Again, I am so excited you are joining me in this adventure! Boom Boom!
